Do you live abroad? And do you have citizen service number (BSN)? Then you can apply for a DigiD

Did you already have a DigiD before moving abroad? Then you can continue to use your DigiD.

Applying for a DigiD abroad

DigiD through the Social Insurance Bank (SVB)

What do I need?

  • valid passport or identity card 
  • citizen service number (BSN)
  • registered in the Non-Residents Records Database (RNI)Externe link (you do not need an RNI extract for your DigiD application)
  • telephone on which you can receive SMS messages from the Netherlands while being abroad
  • email address
Please note, you cannot use a driver's license in place of an identity card. 

How does it work? 

Applying for a DigiD abroad can be done in two ways: 

  • through the application form
  • through the Social Insurance Bank (SVB); if you are receiving or will soon receive a Dutch state pension.
